What Board Games Does North Star Games Publish?

Establish by pro Magic player Dominic Crapuchettes in 2003 as a means to bring innovation to an otherwise stagnant party game market, North Star Games Studio quickly rose through its ranks as a hobby game publisher with notable titles such as Evolution series, Quacks of Quedlinburg and Oceans among its portfolio. Recently, however, North Star Games Studio changed to North Star Games Studio with a renewed emphasis on both digital and analog board gaming for an avid hobby audience.
Taken as inspiration from the biological principle of evolution, the Evolution series proudly communicates scientific ideas without compromising fun. The gameplay is tight and intelligent, with wide-open possibility spaces stretching above the table – the result being an engaging experience that’s always exciting and amusing to play!
At the conclusion of a round, scoring differs significantly between publisher branches; rather than being determined by how many species remain at the end of an epoch – or the number of food tokens you possess – food now depends on habitat cycling over time.
As a result, gameplay in North Star II is faster and more aggressive, creating a sense of tension as your board’s species are threatened with extinction by tundra-esque conditions and replaced with tundra species from other players’ boards. You must make fast decisions in order to adapt quickly to changing environments while not becoming prey for other players’ moves – the game becomes not simply one about clever moves but survival and deceit! In North Star II, however, you don’t just face off against clever opponents but battle fellow players over treachery from other players as it builds to a higher crescendo with even greater drama from both parties!

Dominic Crapuchettes founded Bethesda Game Studio and designed Cluzzle as his board game creation, but the company produces other entertaining, easy-to-learn titles, including Wits & Wagers, Say Anything! and Happy Salmon, which have all become award winners.
North Star Games is a publisher of video games based on board and card games. Their video games often follow popular franchises and use the same mechanics. Recently, they announced they will publish Fist of the North Star as an action-packed beat ’em up with elements of exploration and fighting.
Dominic Crapuchettes, an accomplished pro-Magic player and seasonal commercial salmon fisherman, founded North Star in 2003 with the intent of innovating the party game market using board games; due to early successes in this arena, he expanded into producing hobby games division titles such as Evolution series, Quacks of Quedlinburg and Taverns of Tiefenthal.
This year, North Star Games Studio underwent a rebrand to become North Star Games Studio with a logo designed by Quillsilver Studio that seeks to evoke feelings of empowerment, mystery, and exploration – not to mention pay homage to Crapuchettes’ salty former life as a fisherman!
While not necessarily signaling a change of direction, this rebranding does indicate an emphasis on producing digital and analog games for hobby markets. Their upcoming projects include a revised version of Evolution, tentatively named Nature, which should be out sometime around 2023.

North Star Games updated Evolution in 2014, commissioning Catherine Hamilton to create dreamy watercolor artwork and cutting four words from its title. They released it as an expansion, entry-level game, expansion/standalone title, and 2023 follow-up Oceans; the 2020 sequel Nature further refined the design; however, their highs and lows were smoothed over by wide open possibilities without reaching dramatic climax like in the original game.
Reengineering their score-generation system to be more equitable has meant redesigning it in ways that make it fairer, moving from awarding points based on how many species and traits survived to one which judges you solely by what remains when time runs out – but at the expense of evolution as they removed food banks which allowed players to pad out early populations to help recover from predator attacks.
Since 2003, Evolution Games LLC of Maryland has been producing cutting-edge party game products. Established by pro-Magic player Dominic Crapuchettes with the goal of injecting some innovation into an otherwise stagnant party game market, their games range from mass market hits like Cluzzle and Wits & Wagers to niche market hits like Oceans Quacks of Quedlinburg Taverns as part of their Evolution series; Oceans, Quacks of Quedlinburg Taverns are also published alongside Evolution. Recently, they expanded into video game publishing via an exclusive partnership agreement with Sega Ryu Ga Gotoku studio known for Yakuza series beat-ups; their Fist of North Star game will feature unique style and gameplay and will be made available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.

How Does North Star Games’ Strategy Games Compare to Others?

North Star Games publishes strategy games designed to challenge and entertain. Their board and card games are always easy to learn, quick to play, and full of personality; from family clay games like Cluzzle to party trivia and opinion games such as Say Anything, there is something fun for all occasions available at North Star Games.
North Star Games’ Oceans board game, part of their evolution series of evolutionary biology-themed board games, explores the boundaries between life above the sea’s surface and below in an ever-evolving cosmos below. As with Evolution, Oceans takes players on an exploration through Earth’s underwater cosmos where survival depends on being adaptable enough. Oceans include 120 Surface Cards, 89 Deep Cards, 200 Population Tokens, 24 Species Cards, Scenario Cards, and Cambrian Explosion Cards in one box, which accommodates 2-6 players within 60 to 90 minutes to complete.
Rightgames RBG and North Star Games both publish evolution games, but their scoring systems differ substantially. Rightgames RBG games provide a safeguard by awarding points if species and traits still remain at the end of a game, while North Star Games versions don’t offer this security net.
North Star Games’s version of RBG is more confrontational and aggressive, building to a higher crescendo and being more fun for watching species become prey or discovering amusing trait combinations (no upper limit to traits leads to absurd mishmash animals). Unfortunately, however, its speed doesn’t compare favorably with RBG editions.
